The Little Market Garden unit study guides children through an entire growing season of starting their own fictional garden to feed their local community. Children will learn how to grow a garden using permaculture practices and understand the importance of supporting local farmers and the economy. Through the story of creating their own garden and setting up a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, children will learn the fundamentals of starting a business, including designing a logo, defining a target audience, and writing compelling advertisements. Children will build their own unique farms by pasting cut out manipulatives on the final spread of the workbooks as they work their way through the twenty lessons. Children finish out the year having a deep understanding of the planting process, how to battle pest in the garden organically, and even different ways to preserve their harvest!
How to Use Our Unit Studies? You must purchase a Teacher's Guide (56 pages) to lead your lessons, and every student will need their own workbook (132 pages) for their appropriate academic level.
Our unit studies teach Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Art & select Math concepts. But what makes Heritage Schoolhouse different, is that our unit studies teach old-fashioned skills in a modern world. The Little Market Garden unit study teaches old-fashioned skills like how to start seeds, properly harden off and transplant plants, and how to preserve your garden bounty, while also teaching children how to start and market a small business.
